On the comments page from the last post, Omohemi Benson asked a very important question, WHAT IS AFRICA GOING TO DO ABOUT MUGABE? Beyond the yeepa (head/chest grabbing recoil) factor, I am hoping that a new generation of people who are from and live on the African continent (the discourse on what the word African means is one for another day, read Chris Abani's piece in the current edition of Farafina magazine edited by Chimamanda Adichie) might have an answer. The politicization of the issue of land reform to legitimize this sort of mass thievery and sheer inhumanity is a crime and we must not just stand by and watch. The tacit support and lukewarm resistance of certain African leaders is unacceptable and their people should soundly chastise them. Part of the resolution from the Southern African leaders' summit in Zambia should be a collective decision on the continued brutalization of the mandate and people of Zimbabwe. Here is a call to action in an open letter from the 2007 Tutu Fellows that is worth signing up to. On a pleasant note, Hopewell has been nominated for a CNN/Multichoice journalist of the year award. Excellent, mai broda! Charlie, (pronounced chaley) when you come to Accra we West Africans will show you real hospitality.

Copyright © 2008 NaijaEcash. Visit the original article at [naijaecash.com]. Yesterday, I posted an article Self-Promoting Your Blog For Traffic. In the post, I mentioned in passing that I want to have new friends. In less than six hours after publishing the post I got a comment from Carl the webmaster at Carl Discovers The World. He gave a generous offer that I could not resist. He offered to be my friend and render whatever assistance I may need with my blogging activities. That was more than I was expecting (remember I am a Nigerian ;-)).
I must confess to you that I forgot my manners due to over-excitement, so I went right ahead to ask if he was willing to help me out with CSS and CGI script! He answered in the affirmative and that was it (maybe I was just trying to unconsciously check if the offer was genuine). It is unusual and very wrong to start asking for favour right at the beginning of a new relationship. You should be willing to give without any string attached. That is what builds credibility. Well the blunder has already been committed. Worse still I have not put the request together to send to him. However, the good news is that he is waiting for me to get my acts together and send the problematic scripts to him (that is so encouraging) ;-).
Well after getting over the excitement, I visited his site yesterday. It is quite a lovely blog with great contents that I can learn a lot from (as a non-tech). I also visited again today (remember you must visit your friends, that is how relationships are built, stop Bootlicking) and I saw the Entrecard Contest he has put up. He is giving 3,500 Entrecard Credits away by 20th May, 2008. The first person will get 2,000EC, the second will get 1,000EC while the third will get 500EC. That to me is a good offer and I am game. I encourage you to participate, just click the link Entrecard Contest and it will take you there.
I have another offer for a free Blog review by a fellow Nigerian, Solomon the webmaster of Nigerian Curiousity. He is an older blogger with more experience. He read my post The Nigerian Entrepreneur Second Month Progress Report where I mentioned in passing that I want to have a blog review. He dropped an encouraging comment and offered to do a free review of my blog if I will be willing to reciprocate. To me that is not trade by barter. His blog is older than mine. He has more traffic and is actually a Google PR3 ranked website. So, the offer is tilted in my favour. Am I going to take up the offer? Of course yes. I will do a review of his blog. I have been a reader of his blog long before I started this blog. So it is a pleasure all through.
Okay, enough of my stories. The point has been made. If you are in need of HELP just go ahead and ask. If you are in need of FRIENDS, just shout it out, someone may hear and respond. I love blogging, I love the online community and I remain proudly Nigerian If you want to be my friend, let me know, I will hop down to visit you whenever I am online. Thanks for visiting. Cheers.

Aid Urgently Needed in Myanmar (Burma): Lutheran World Relief Responds
BALTIMORE, May 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lutheran World Relief is supplying desperately needed emergency aid to Myanmar (Burma) in the wake of the devastating cyclone that struck there over the weekend. Lutheran World Relief is responding through our international partners in the global aid alliance Action by Churches Together (ACT) International.
Official reports indicate that over 60,000 people are dead or missing, with as many as 1 million homeless. These numbers are likely to rise. A United States diplomat in the area has estimated that as many as 100,000 may have been killed.
Reports from LWR's partner, ACT, indicate that water and electricity supplies have been cut to much of the country. The full extent of the destruction is still being ascertained as damage and need assessment information comes in and communication channels are slow and very limited. Survivors are in dire need of food, clean water, shelter and other basic items. Your donations will help LWR provide much-needed relief to the families affected by this tragedy. LWR accepts donations online at www.lwr.org/giving; by phone at 1-800-597-5972; or by mail at P.O. Box 17061 Baltimore, MD 21298-9832, USA.
WHO IS LWR? Lutheran World Relief, an international nonprofit organization, works to end poverty and injustice by empowering some of the world's most impoverished communities to help themselves. With partners in 35 countries, LWR seeks to promote sustainable development with justice and dignity by helping communities bring about change for healthy, safe and secure lives; engage in Fair Trade; promote peace and reconciliation; and respond to emergencies. LWR is headquartered in Baltimore, Md. and has worked in international development and relief since 1945.
Lutheran World Relief is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), individuals and parish groups in international relief, development, advocacy and social responsibility.

Abu Ayyub al-Masri also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir 9 May 2008 00:08 Africa/Lagos Iraqi Army: Al Qaeda in Iraq Leader Nabbed From CBS/The Associated Press WASHINGTON, May 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was arrested in the northern city of Mosul, the Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Thursday. Spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said the arrest of al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, was confirmed to him by the Iraqi commander of the province. Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said that Mosul police "arrested one of al Qaeda's leaders at midnight and during the primary investigations he admitted that he is Abu Hamza Al-Muhajir." If confirmed, the arrest would represent a major blow to al Qaeda in Iraq, which has been on the run for the past year following a shift in alliances by Sunni tribesmen in western Anbar province, and elsewhere, and an influx of thousands of U.S. troops. The U.S. military considers the organization its number one enemy in Iraq. "The commander of Ninevah military operations informed me that Iraqi troops captured Abu Hamza al-Muhajir the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq," al-Askari told The Associated Press by telephone. Well thanks to our dear photographers at purefoto, oversized bags are in vogue big time in Naija! Wow Nice to see Ego Boyo out and about! Nike Ogunlesi (on the left) looks stylish as always! With all these events Naija is certainly the place to be seen and heard! The over sized bags became a hot item in 2007 "Oversized handbags usually provide easy access, long handles for over the shoulder carrying, cell phone pockets, zip pockets, fold over flip pockets and hold a lot of necessary items needed for any occasion. Not only do designer handbags make you feel good about yourself, they present you as a person of the present era or, of modern tastes. Some women like the oversized handbag because it functions as two bags in one. Not only does it serve as a purse it can double as a camera case, diaper bag, etc. You can take your camera with you everywhere you go without looking like you are taking you camera everywhere. An oversized designer handbag which also functions as a diaper bag does not scream “Look at me! I’m somebody’s tired, frazzled mommy!”. Plus, after you have gone through the frumpiness of pregnancy, then the emotional ups and downs of post-pregnancy, the no time to fix your eyebrows or your nails, just being able to dress up in your favorite designer wear and carry your favorite designer handbag makes you feel a bit more “polished”. It’s an instant pick me up. Shoes and a great bag will make or break an outfit. And if you need to carry a lot of things, no matter what they are, you can still look fashionable by carrying an oversized designer handbag. Another nice thing with regards to oversized handbags is that there is no stigma attached to their size. Unlike when you are trying on designer jeans and you think “if I hadn’t eaten that last dessert, these jeans might fit me”. There is no shame in carrying an oversized handbag. All women will concur that an oversized handbag is a must for adventuring. You can carry sandwiches, snacks, make up bag, cell phone, laptop, keys, hairbrush, hairspray, baby items, pet items, maps, first aid kit, etc. Designer Handbags are a wearable work of art. The craftsmanship on a really well made bag will captivate you. You may find yourself sitting in the closet looking at the stitching, feeling the silky leather and breathing in that new leather smell. It may be hard for you to bring yourself to actually using it. Some designers of oversized handbags are Tommy Hilfiger, Necessary Objects, Stone Mountain, Kathy Van Zeeland and Derek Alexander. Kathy Van Zeeland handbags provide exclusive materials of the highest quality and focus on the most fashionable trends each season. Kathy Van Zeeland wants you to look and feel great wearing her handbags, and she is confident that you will receive many compliments on your sense of style." jackiebeamYou can get you fix on designer bags at the designerbagsaddict store! After recording a loss of over N1 trillion in the last 2 months, the Nigerian stock exchange has experienced a sharp rally in the last two trading days. This is evident as major market indicators such as the All Share Index (ASI), market capitalization and others have all started to move in the northward direction.
It would seem that investors are now taking positions with respect to some stocks now that most stock prices have dropped, ahead of quarterly results to be released. Talking about results, the market in the last week has witnessed the release of some quarterly as well as full year results of some companies. Companies from the banking sub-sector to conglomerates without forgetting health care sub-sector have released and are still expected to release impressive results in the weeks ahead. Below is the just released 3rd quarter result for Morison Industries Plc which has just been released on the floor of the exchange.
In the highlights of the result released, turnover for the period increased by 156 percent, from N0.04 billion in 2007 to N0.10 billion in 2008. Profit before tax increased by 300 percent from N0.003 billion in 2007 to N0.012 billion in the corresponding period of 2008. After tax profit was sustained on a similar level, from N0.002 billion in 2007 to N0.008 billion in 2008,also a 300 percent increase.
Most of the results released in the last week has witnessed some impressive profit levels and significant improvements by companies quoted on the exchange. We only hope that investors be rational in the purchase of stocks during and after this period. Proper analysis should be carried out before purchasing any stock. Do not be caught in the bandwagon effect that has caused many investors money.
If you ask me,i still believe that the Nigerian market holds a lot of aces for intelligent and wise investors. Act like one today and you will have a smile on your face for a long time to come.

Why do people happily pay loads of cash for the i-things (iPod, iPhone,...?) It's not the sound quality or skip resistance, not that white earphones are better than black ones, or that ppl love to shuffle their little mp3 files. It's just the "cool", the marketing. Right? I guess Steve Jobs is the master of razzle-dazzle. Who else rocks at this game? Slowly learning to add flash to substance are the OLPC ( One Laptop per Child) people, led by Nick Negroponte and in need of a "selling" genius. Maybe they'll succeed. I want an OLPC, or three, or ten. I don't really want an i-whatever (except at the clearance sale prices) At the moment Apple will sell you a walkman or a phone for money that OLPC wishes you would pay for the whole computer.

Toyin Aimaku is one Nollywood actress rising gradually to the top of the movie industry, especially in the Yoruba genre. This blog present the pictorial glance at Toyin Aimaku. Please enjoy. Here is an interview she granted Daily Independent last year, which was culled from Naijarules.com. Please read on. You seem to have made a significant impact within a short time in the industry, how come? This is probably my time; you will get to where God planned for you when the time comes. Actually, I wanted to be a psychotherapist, I never loved acting, but I met someone who introduced me to Bukky Wright and she brought me into limelight. This is what God wants me to do. How was it like with Bukky Wright?I was with her for a year, but now I’m on my own. I came into the industry through her and I went practically everywhere with her. Are you a star now?I am and I’ll always be in Jesus name. In what way has acting paid off for you?Am I not looking good? I’m looking good, I’ve got money to buy a small car and do whatever I want to do for myself. If you were not an actress what would you have been?I’d probably have been a lawyer or psychotherapist. |
